Reviews
lovely food. It was a quiet afternoon which suited. The two staff that were in the bar were brilliant.. helpful, polite and very cheerful. Felt welcoming and warm. Didn't mind my extra sugar requests 🙈. Would highly recommend. Food was excellent 👌
Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Service was amazing. The food was incredible and plenty of it. The Arancini Balls were cooked to absolute perfection! Opted for the Braised Beef Brisket, Sunday roast (I wasn't a fan of the beef, but that's just personal preference, nothing to do with the chef, etc. I would definitely visit again and pick a different meat) proper puffed up Yorkshire puddings, delicious roasties, Veg was cooked perfectly for me (although my partner not so much a fan of al dente veg) generous serving of gravy in a side boat. Would 100% recommend a visit.
Not what did I aspected... they advertise them self to be fine dining restaurant/pub. It's a simple village pub. Dresses nice me and my wife for the occasion, we felt embarrassed once we entered into the "restaurant." There was no atmosphere, and the staff was not really welcoming. There is no drinks menu, but just a wine list. Placed our order for food and wine. My wine was really awful, and i had to reach the Waitress attention several times before to get a better glass of wine. Our starter arrived, and it was a Mediterranean sharing platter for £18. It was nice but very limited amount of cured meat ( considering that it was to share) and filled of a ridiculous amount of bread just to fill the platter up.
Mains arrived, and luckily, the quality of meat was great. I'm just a little disappointed about my t-bone that I wanted blue, but I've been told by the Waitress that for safety, the chef suggests it medium rare being a big steak on the bone. It never happened before 🤷♂️. A massive and useless amount of chips that they kept falling from the plate when I was cutting my meat, I had to ask for a side plate to move all these chips. The dessert menu was offered, but the only one thing that I liked was out of stock. We paid the bill and left. In the end I will never turn back here not for the quality of food, not for the not attentive service, but because they wish to be fine dining but for sure, they never saw really one in them lifes. All the nice reviews that have gotten this place come probably from the locals that probably enjoy some pints in this pub!
Thank you
Beautiful country pub , hidden in the countryside between Cardiff and Newport, first time visiting this place. Dining area tables a bit cramped together but overall a nice set up , we both went for the homemade steak and ale pie with puff pastry and chips and peas , the pastry on the pie was immense, highly recommend this dish , space beer garden out back , as you leave the car park turn left and the country houses dotted along the country road to Newport are stunning ( worth the drive just for the scenery 👍
We came here for the T bone steak and we were not disappointed! It was amazing as it was a perfectly cooked medium steak and it was really tender. We had home made chips, mushrooms, tomato and pepper sauce. The steaks had come from the …
A really lovely pub! We enjoyed a Sunday roast here after a walk in the area. The pub itself sits next to a very beautiful church, with we imagine a fair amount of history. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, the food was delicious (very …
